A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare Essay -- othello, lago puck

Shakespeare has a way of creating his characters so the audience can relate to them in a way. In his villains we see the negative characteristics that are in ourselves and others around us; things that often define the â€Å"natural man† such as greed or jealousy. With the entire terrible and treacherous thing that Shakespeare makes his villains do, he always manages to make them human in a way. As if he is meaning to display that no matter how twisted a person can be, they are still a person. In Shakespeare’s plays Othello, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the villains share the characteristics of greed, clever and conniving ways, and recklessness; however, they all bring their own features to the table. The first of the villains is Puck from A Midsummer Night’s Dream; he is clever, reckless, and very mischievous, these characteristics tend to get him into trouble. Sometimes referred to as Robin or Robing Goodfellow, Puck is a trickster by nature and loves to play pranks on others, by this, he and Bottom actually progress the three central stories of the play. Puck is introduced first and creates drama in the lovers’ story by messing up who loves whom. Puck also turns Bottoms head into an ass and makes Titania fall in love with him so he might bring the Indian boy/slave for Oberon, the fairy king. Puck introduces himself in Act two, Scene one by saying, â€Å" I am that merry wanderer of the night./I jest to Oberon and make him smile/When I a fat and bean-fed horse beguile,/Neighing in likeness of a filly foal:/And sometime lurk I in a gossip's bowl,/In very likeness of a roasted crab,/And when she drinks, against her lips I bob/And on her wither'd dewlap pour the al e./The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,/Sometime for three-f... ...e Moor is arrested, transported from Cyprus to Venice, and tortured, but refuses to admit his guilt. He is condemned to exile; Desdemona's relatives eventually execute him. The ensign escapes any prosecution in Desdemona's death, but engages in other crimes and dies after being tortured.† (Bevington, David and Kate) Although Iago, King Claudius, and Puck are the work of pure imagination, Shakespeare teaches us something very important about whom we are as a being. Human nature is back stabbing, conniving, greedy, and jealous; all those things that you can say are bad when looking at another, but can justify in yourself. One tends to validate their wrong doing as necessary or not as bad as something that another has done. Shakespeare is playing a game with his audience through his villains. By showing their faults, he, in turn, makes us see the faults in ourselves.

Darryl Hunt Death Penalty

My view upon death penalty before watching the video about Darryl hunt’s case, was strongly against it. I truly believe that we have no say in who is to take someone’s life. Who are we to decide who lives or dies? There is no standard that we can place on someone’s life, to determine their existence in this world. Life is a precious gift, no matter how cruel the crime may be that the person being accused of committing the crime. I strongly believe that incarceration for the reminder of their life is in my view, the most extreme decision as a society to make in determining an individuals future. After reviewing the Darryl Hunt Case, I strongly believe that the justice system went wrong when it came to Darryl Hunt’s Case. From the start, the justice system faltered in backing up the meaning of â€Å"all men are created equal. † Darryl Hunt was tried as a â€Å"Black Man† with an all white jury. He was not looked upon as a man that stood before the jury who was being accused of a crime that he pleads his innocence. He was judged as a black man that must be a criminal because of his ethnicity and his innocence that he pleaded was nothing but a lie to their ears. He was judged solely on the color of his skin, racism took over the minds of they juries an the charges they found him guilty on. It was honestly all down hill from the start. Multiple denies on appeals that Darryl filed, even after DNA diagnostics had proven that Darryl Hunt did not committee the crime that he was being held accountable for, The justice system turned away an failed to even allow the thought that this man is innocent and should be free even cross their mind. After the Man finally was caught who confessed to the crime that Darryl hunt was being accused of, Darryl was released to freedom, hat should have been given back to him from the beginning of the racial, judgmental, ignorant minded individuals who took part in taking away 20 years of this innocent mans life. I feel the death penalty should be abolished. As a Society, we are constantly changing, and re-defining the right an wrongs that we hold ourselves too. Who are we to take a life from someone, no matter the cr ime. Believing that playing â€Å"God† can be justified by society, is just as ignorant as having hope in the justice system will be perfect one day.

At the beginning of the book, Sartre defends existentialism against several charges that had been laid against it. Throughout the book, Sartre refers to the basis of existentialism using the phrase ‘existence precedes essence . With this, phrase lies the basis for the argument that Existentialism is a Humanism. Successful and unsuccessful, there have been many attempts on the lives and well being of our citizens. These attempts have come from many sources, and if not based in foreign countries, usually inspired by recruiters from other countries. It goes without saying that this needs to be stopped. As a realist, when there is a problem at hand, you recognize it, and deal with it. An outstanding majority of these terror situations have been caused by people and groups outside of our borders. A simple solution is to limit acceptance of foreigners that may have roots in the places these attacks have come from. To an idealist this is completely wrong. But as someone who deals in facts and facts only, this is the only way to protect our soil and the many people who inhabit it. The lives of innocent men, women, and children isn't necessarily something I believe we can take risks on, or be "friendly" or "politicall y correct" about. We can't continue to unknowingly accept future murderers and terrorists with open arms. We need to thoroughly screen people attempting to gain entry into the U.S.. It may inconvenience good people but that's the price we'll pay to protect our own. The same realistic ideals apply in relation to the U.S.'s participation in other people's wars and conflicts. As a realist, I believe we should be concerned with our problems and our problems only. In regards to safety, we draw more enemies and potential threats by constantly choosing sides or participating in situations that don't directly affect us. In regards to spending, we dish out enormous amounts of money in order to have a presence in these foreign lands or fight for other countries. An idealist believes that as a nation of power it is our duty to protect and serve others. Realism has led me to believe that this is untrue. We have to do for ourselves first and foremost. We have to protect our own first and foremost. Anything that can threaten that should be eliminated from our priorities. In all aspects, I believe that these entities we assist, will always be out for themselves and will eventually abandon, if not totally betray us if necessary. Investing in shaky bonds such as these can only do us harm. In terms of the War on ISIS, I believe we should continue efforts to infiltrate and destroy all entities whose identity is based upon a threat to our homeland. Realistically speaking, many groups including ISIS exist with a purpose to end as many American lives as possible. These groups become more sophisticated, trained, and experienced by the day. Any efforts we can put forth to tarnish their presence is much needed. The threat they pose is real, their past actions were real, and their existence is real. We cannot ignore or tip-toe around it. We have to face it head on. As a realist, I believe they will
